An interactive session with Ms. Rebekah, Consular Chief of the U.S. Consulate, and her team was held on November 20, 2024, at the Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Conference Hall. The event was organized in collaboration with the AP Chamber of Commerce, Vizagapatam Chamber of Commerce, and ITAAP.
The President of VCCI provided a brief introduction to the organization and shared insights on India-U.S. trade relations and India's sustainable growth despite numerous challenges. He also highlighted the proposal to establish a Visa application center in Vizag.
Ms. Lakshmi Mukkavilli, President of ITAAP, invited Ms. Rebekah to discuss opportunities and potential for technology transfer between the U.S. and India. She also requested her support in promoting a simplified visa process to enhance trade between the two nations.
Ms. Rebekah emphasized the newly established U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad and expressed her goal of significantly increasing the daily issuance of visas from the current 1600 to 2,500. She also noted that the U.S. is actively encouraging students to pursue their studies in India, particularly in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Serving the regions of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha, the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad facilitated 47,000 student visa interviews this year, compared to 35,000 last year, marking a 25% increase in student visa processing. A total of 1.4 million visas were issued across all categories last year, which is truly a remarkable achievement.
Ms. Jeanne, Deputy Chief of the Consular Information Unit, explained the U.S. visa application process, outlining procedures for interviews and exceptions such as interview waivers, emergency appointments, and group applications, encouraging eligible individuals to take advantage of these options.
Mr. Winston Adams, Chairman of the IT Subcommittee at the AP Chamber, introduced the Chief Guest and concluded the event with final remarks, expressing appreciation for Ms. Rebekah’s valuable insights. He also delivered the vote of thanks.
